Batman and Griswald stood among the trees of an ever deepening wood, as if slowly sliding into a forest realm not entirely of this world. Below them stood the Spring Heir, and as would soon be revealed, the Summer Knight. Instead of hunting the Heir, he instead claimed to be protecting him. Eventually after being offered a chance to meet later, they flew off but noticed something happening, a group of men sneaking up and surrounding the pair. Not content to let things play out they dropped down and attempted to capture one, and in the process found a new ally called Max, a wizard-in-training. The fight was quick, with the Spring Heir Banfia and Summer Knight Ronald Reuel doing their share in eliminating the would be assassins as Batman, Griswald, and Max helped. Batman himself managed to frighten one into revealing the name of their employer: Michael Rooney.
Meanwhile Stig and Bartleby were back at the winter apartment with the presently mutated Irwin, Stig was resting from his wounds received from the giant snake in dead man’s hollow, while Bartleby met with Max, an old friend, and elected to do some research down by the fountain. Unfortunately the spirit was gone, and the trolls didn’t seem keen on telling anyone where. On their way back Bartleby saw The Van bringing driven by a woman matching Evey Beckett’s description, and caused Max to wreck his car to try and chase it. Not long after Bartleby left, Batman returned to the apartment, having left Griswald behind. But it was not to be a peaceful night as after awhile smoke began to fill the apartment and alarms went off. Stig and Batman set about trying to help. The sprinkler system was not activating and so they descended to the basement. Having fought through crowded halls and enduring the lung filling smoke, it was soon found the sprinklers had been sabotaged, but fortunately Stig knew there was a back up.
While Batman attempted to fight the fires, Stig returned to the apartment to check on Irwin only to find him calling for help. He had tried to use the fire escape, but it also had been sabotaged and he now clinged to the remaining part still attached to the building. Stig attempted to save him but in so doing sent the rest falling, he grabbed onto a hold while keeping his grip on Irwin and eventually rescuing the both of them, amazingly without injury.
Stig now gathered the others, save for Batman, picking up a drunk Griswald at the Harp & Fiddle where she had been left by Max earlier. Then with the full group they headed to Warden Teach to see about getting Irwin some help. While they are there a knock came to the door, and it was none other than Ronald Reuel. He had grave news, the Spring Heir, Banfia was dead. Apparently he had been ambushed at the ‘safe house’ summer had created for it, burned by something other than summer fire. To make matters worse the death of the Spring Heir had sent up a signal to the supernatural world and apparently several major power houses were descending on Pittsburgh as a response, including the Tuatha. Speaking of signals Griswald in her drunken state attempted to use her hand crafted batsignal, and in the process drained her cars battery, and then proceded to push it along calling out for Batman.
The group wanted to investigate the scene of the crime for the summer safehouse, and the Summer Knight was willing to oblige. Bartleby decided to stock up and he knew a trusted and reliable gun dealer and proceeded to go there to buy a rifle. After negotiating a selling price of $850, he then proceeded to meet him at a cafe in Pittsburgh at about 1 am to make the transfer. After doing so he was then surrounded by the police who had been tipped off that a certain murder weapon they were looking for was being smuggled by a man matching *Bartleby*’s description and carrying a golfbag. He escaped into the Nevernever.
The Harp & Fiddle Club regrouped in the Harp & Fiddle, where each had seen some strange sights, not the least of which was the smell-less and oddly attired clientelle in the bar that night. Max opened his sight to see what he may make of the situation, and saw that many of the figures occupying the space of the bar mostly appeared to be dead, each showing signs of some violent death. Aside from the dead, there was a man with an Autumn Crown, and the bartender who appeared uniquely mundane.
Stig upon hearing the nature of the man with an Autumn Crown decided to talk with him, and the introductions took him aback. The man Identified himself as Partholon, Stig knew this name, it was the name of the King of Autumn. The Autumn Court was something he had previously researched, and Warden Teach had also briefly touched upon them in a discussion of the Spring Heir. As a whole the Autumn Court dealt with the border between life and death, ensuring that it wasn’t crossed, but had become weak over the centuries and then nearly wiped out by Heinrich Kemmler, a great necromancer who ravaged eastern europe in the years after WWII, something Teach referred to as the grave wars. His own presence in the city was one caused by the disappearance of the Autumn Knight, Angela Stalker.
The next day the group decided they had two main goals, investigate the scene of the crime, and find out what happened to the Autumn Knight. Bartleby and Batman set out to see to the safe house, while the rest went to investigate Allegheny Center, the last known whereabouts of the Autumn Knight. At the grove south of Pittsburgh they found signs of a firefight, literally, as the scorched trees could attest, and the smell of some sort of fuel or accelerant. Along with it were some signs of small arms fire.
Meanwhile in Allegheny Center the team looked into local myths and found one about Agony #7, a former student housing center since remodeled and used as the headquarters of Fanatics, a sports agency. Inside they had a brief conversation with Kate, the receptionist, and eventually asked to speak to someone who might have seen Angela Stalker. Stig spoke to the man who came, and after learning nothing but had his and *Max*’s picture taken Stig felt like he should put this man in his place, and took a swing at the security officer. Of course he didn’t know he was taking a swing at Andy Miura, ranked fifth in super middle weight division of the WBA. After Stig and beaten on him for a bit, other security arrived on the scene and Stig unleashed the cold of winter… by accident into the ceiling, resulting in the collapse of the floor of the office above and a very confused office worker. While Stig distracted everyone, Griswald snuck in and made it to the security office, where after incapacitating the last remaining guard stole the various hard drives and escaped from a window. Meanwhile Batman and Bartleby had arrived on location and made a bizarre scene on the top floors via the roof access as Batman broke lights and flipped off switches. Eventually after causing enough psychological trauma to the staff they all left to regroup.
That night after ‘hacking’ the hard drives and erasing evidence of their visits, they found a clue on one of who they thought was the Autumn Knight sneaking into the basement. This was enough and they promptly went about disabling the local power grid and breaking in, easily knocking out the one security guard on duty. They broke the basement door, made the stair well quite cold and made their way to a old wooden door on the lowest level. Inside they found a hellish beast, it spilled lava from the jaws of its two heads as the dark hound spit fire at Stig. Griswald promptly ran in to pounce on it, but instead fell through it, and suspecting things were not as they seemed Max dispelled the glamour to reveal that beneath was a fairly mundane flamethrower trap. As the fight continued Stig ripped out a fuel line, and the result was a smell quite familiar to Batman, it was what had been smelled at the scene of the Spring Heir’s death.
With the trap then defeated they moved to the iron door beyond, and inside was the flayed body of what they assumed had to be Angela Stalker. Disgusted they froze her body to preserve it as best they could then went to take her up, but they wanted to stop on the floor above, inside they found a small living space with a secretary’s desk, a wet bar a bathroom, a closet, along with a small workout room and office. At the far end there was an ornate door and inside Griswald and Batman snuck in to investigate the living quarters and the body in the bed on the far side. As they crept closer they noted the lack of movement or smell, and when they lifted the sheets were instead greeted by a bomb. The door behind them started to swing shut, as a laughing Michael Rooney detonated the small device. Batman was hit with shrapnel, while Griswald leapt to safety. Stig prevented the door from closing and locking them out while Rooney then made a dash for his rapier and engaged Batman. As more of the party piled in Rooney felt like his sword just wasn’t going to cut it, especially with Batman grasping the thing, and so he ran to behind the wet bar, and rose up wielding one of his favorite toys, a chain gun. The battle raged before finally after Rooney had set the place to self destruct he was knocked back down the stairs, he vowed revenge, and was then lost in the explosion.
Finally meeting back with Partholon and giving the news of Angela he thanks them all and offered each a boon. Batman requested Robin!, while Griswald wasn’t yet sure and so held onto the promise of reward for now. Stig sought knighthood, while Max who had been in a coma from the explosion, requested healing.
The Harp & Fiddle club has reached a major milestone, having defeated Michael Rooney, and yet finding out the fae and weak veil is a mere side effect of a far worse threat on the horizon as the dead seemingly are becoming a more common sight on the streets of Pittsburgh.
