Feeling unsure of their previous investigations the Harp & Fiddle Club decide to delay their trap, and instead investigate further. This time some choose to go to the Point Park Fountain, a location known to house a spirit of knowledge. Their arrival was met by some trolls, but ultimately through a combination of bizarre street magic and failed glamours, were able to gain the pity of the trolls and allowed a one time free pass to the fountain. Meanwhile Dr. Thenardier sought to soothe the beast, by obtaining written apologies from those Max had targeted.
Upon speaking to the spirit, of whom they never learned the name, they asked for information on Krampus, and in particular any notable weaknesses. In exchange for this they traded a coin, something the spirit is apparently fond of, rare and unusual ones in particular. The knowledge gained was more general than anything, but they learned demons are potentially vulnerable to running water, faith based magic, and exorcism.
Armed with this knowledge they chose to go forth and prepare for their trap anew, and hopefully set it up in such a way as to give them the advantage. First they sought a priest, named Father Park, who could aid in an exorcism, then scouted locations for the trap, ideally near a fire hydrant.
Elsewhere in the city two of winters agents are summoned to an elementary school gym, a mortal agent named Stig and a changeling named Marie Griswald, where they meet with their contact, a fae named Jack Frost, he set them to a task to discover why there was unusually high reports of summer fae flooding into Pittsburgh. To this end they decided to look into the locals, and found their way to the Harp & Fiddle. Once there they learned of the Harp & Fiddle club, and sought them out. Unfortunately they initially only found a body, presumed to be Evey Beckett, a member of the organization. She had been cut open with claws, and the body dumped in her van. Her place of murder unknown. Upon returning to the Harp & Fiddle they met up with the remaining members of the Harp & Fiddle Club.
Now down one, but up two, plus an elderly priest, the club decided to set their trap. Richard Rykirk was convinced to stand apparently alone on a street, near a fire hydrant. Meanwhile the club hid in close proximity, ready to strike at the demon once it appeared. It wasn’t long, but things were not as straight forward as they had hoped. Not one, but three small Krampus figures showed up and charged their victim. Richard was attacked from multiple angles, as the club stayed in a disciplined fashion, awaiting the proper moment to spring the trap. Finally in line with the hydrant they opened it up on the creatures, who surprisingly managed to not be all that affected. It was then with a grim realization they knew they weren’t fighting what they had prepared for at all, and instead identified the creatures as shapeshifting fae known as fetches. As they fought on, Dr. Thenardier attempted to find Maximilain, but after a swift fight, eventually the fetches fled, and with police on the way, the Harp & Fiddle also retreated with no sign of Max.
The Harp & Fiddle Club attempted to track the fetches, but unfortunately lost them in the city streets. Now with their first encounter with their foe over, they needed a new plan. Maximilian Kraus had not shown up at the fight, and so the group decided to attempt another trap back at the Orphanage. Upon their return, they found signs that someone had been there after they left, and so they prepared for another ambush. Dr. Thenardrier leaving behind apologies from those who had picked on him, in hopes to satiate his fury, before leaving to teach a class.
Around 3AM, the suspect arrived, and began adding to his circle once more, adding more nonsensical drawings and preparing, when Stig accidently made a loud noise coming up the stairs after him. This prompted Kraus to leap out the window, shortly followed by a graceful leap by Oswald the Omnipotent, followed then by a brutal jump by Stig. However, amid the leaping, Kraus didn’t expect the quick knives of Marie Griswald, and slowed by her intervention it quickly changed into a brawl between an obviously possessed Max Kraus, and the Harp & Fiddle Club.
Marie Griswald proved a tough fighter, but Max seemed inhumanly tough and strong, wielding a firemans axe. Oswald attempted to distract and disorient as Stig and Marie threw all they had at it, and Elsa Hartwood tried to catch it in a magic circle. Max saw this, and brutally assaulted the changeling, nearly taking her out in a single blow.
And so it closed, Stig * and Elsa out of the fight, as the battered demonically possessed Maximilian Kraus turned his attention back to the stage magician and winter agent.
- Stig’s player will not be able to make next month, so I am assuming he helps Elsa get to safety if that is alright with him.
